Abstract

The review article on the characteristics of sleep and circadian rhythms during aging also presents the results of a comprehensive analysis of the influence of the domestic Menovalen containing valerian on the emotional-mnestic activity, structure and quality of sleep in the elderly, which indicates its positive effect, characterized by a decrease in the level of reactive anxiety and quality improvement sleep, The analysis was carried out in the State Institution “D.F. Chebotarev Institute of Gerontology NAMS of Ukraine”. Analysis results show that use of Menovalen in 60% of patients normalized circadian rhythms, increased sleep duration, reduced the number night awakenings. Under the influence of the drug Menovalen, elderly people also harmonized the bioelectric activity of the brain,
which was expressed an increase in alpha rhythm power and a decrease in theta rhythm power.
